Home automation is a part of building automation, specializing in the specific requirements of private homes and in the application of automation techniques for the comfort and security of its residents. The techniques which are used in home automation system also include techniques of building automation like heating, security and surveillance system etc. as well as the control of home entertainment systems, houseplant watering, pet feeding, changing scenes for different events and a more user friendly interface.
During the construction of a new home, when home automation is installed, usually the control wires are added before the installation of the interior walls. These control wires are attached to a controller which controls the environment. The tasks include:
• Heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions
• Lighting control systems
• Natural lighting which involves controlling window shades, LCD shades, etc
• Audio and video system which includes audio/video switching and distribution
• Control and integration of security cameras
• An intercom system
With the advancement of technology these techniques are used increasingly.
